weh

i got this email like a month ago and i was really excited because they wanted me to illustrate their children’s book. i didn’t expect to be paid like a whole lot but i spent a lot of time researching on what i should ask for and what i should know.

we finally got on the phone today but she doesn’t want to pay me for my work. she wanted me to go in this partnership, which is basically an unpaid job in hopes of the book selling so i could get a percentage off the sales.

i’m just really disappointed and i feel kind of silly for being so excited.

i turned her offer down. did i make the right choice? at least i can focus on personal work and building a portfolio though. i don’t want to be the artist who gives their work for free anymore. i’m a college student! i need to stand up for myself right?
